Every time someone glanced out the window, there he was— a scrappy, one-legged gull perched on the balcony. We named him Tiny Tony because he always chose to rest on the balcony near Tony’s desk, and honestly, the wordplay on Tiny Tim was too good to resist.

Sometimes it hurts to be the Port biologist. I (luckily) just finished leading a tour at one of our habitat sites when I unknowingly walked right into a swarming nest of ground wasps. I had just enough time to register that the ground was moving before they attacked!

We’re in peak harbor seal “pupping” season in our part of Puget Sound! From June to September, every baby seal I see is the cutest—until the next one shows up. Cue the soundtrack in my head:  

Baby seal, doo doo doo doo doo doo  

You’re so cute, doo doo doo doo doo doo
